Finishing work on a Thursday afternoon, you can feel the weekend coming. You might want to hit the town, but you’re looking for the right excuse.

Enter: Powerhouse Museum offering up a run of free late-night events happening every Thursday through the first half of the year until June 30. The festivities are on till 9pm each week, and you can expect talks on music, art and design, alongside musical performances and exhibitions.

The first run of nights as part of the program has been announced which kicked off on Thursday, February 3 with a blockbuster Lunar New Year event. Still to come in coming weeks: a look at the Clay Dynasty exhibition featuring live clay modelling and artists talks; a Mardi Gras celebration with performances from Slaysians, film screenings curated by Queer Screen and a costume-making workshop with Mardi Gras production manager Liz Carter; and a two-night examination of the exhibition Eucalyptusdom including poetry readings, a mead taste testing with Cornersmith’s Jaimee Edwards, a documentary screening and live music from Biliirr.

One more to put in your diary is an all-star musical showcase happening on Thursday, April 7 in conduction with the exhibition Electric Keys. Spanning hip-hop, pop, experimental electronic music and folk, the lineup features some of Sydney and Australia’s most boundary-pushing and exciting musicians including Ziggy Ramo, Rainbow Chan, Corin, Joy, Pookie, Yeo and Indira Elias.

A pop-up outdoor bar is set up on the Harris Street terrace, featuring Thursday night refreshments and music curated by local favourite FBi Radio.
